Owning a cast-iron skillet is a right of passage when it comes to becoming a veteran at-home cook. However, owning one can be daunting. But, it doesn’t have to be. Once you have one you can season it in just five steps.
How to Season a Cast-Iron Skillet in 5 Easy Steps:
- Scrub skillet well in hot soapy water.
- Dry thoroughly.
- Spread a thin layer of melted shortening or vegetable oil over the skillet.
- Place it upside down on a middle oven rack at 375°. (Place foil on a lower rack to catch drips.)
- Bake 1 hour; let cool in the oven.
